This post shows you the best small entryway ideas for your entrance.

Being honest, my entryway used to be a disaster zone. So much so that there were shoes everywhere, random objects like jackets, hats, gloves piling up and unsurprisingly no space.

It’s the first thing I see when I walk in, and the first thing that guests notice, so over the years I implemented a bunch of changes and have basically given it a lot of love.

Like most people, my entryway is small, almost tiny. But I did a lot of experimenting and searching for inspiration that I realized small spaces can be really charming when you make every inch count!

If your entryway could use a glow-up too, you’re in the right place. :’) I compiled 18 must see small entryway ideas that made my entrance gorgeous, and even feel larger.

Small Entryway Ideas

1. Add Floating Shelves

I love a floating shelf. They can be the biggest lifesavers in small spaces. I really like the idea of using them for decoration like framing photos, plants but more so for those small objects like keys and sunglasses!

They look really clean and airy since they don’t take up any floor space. I would definitely recommend maximizing vertical space for your small entryway like using floating shelves.

This kind of look is especially good for narrow apartment entryway spaces but of course, it can be used for any type of home.

2. Use Wall Hooks Creatively

Similar to the first idea, installing a floating shelf with the added function of some coat hangers is an excellent way to maximize your entryway space + combines decor & function to the next level.

Using wall hooks creatively can include hats, tote bags, umbrellas, even baskets! I love the idea of using a basket like the one above for anything such as collecting mail, or using it as a unique entryway junk drawer to drop small things off like your keys.

3. Sneak in a Slim Storage Cabinet

I especially enjoy these creative ideas. I don’t think I could have come up with this one myself.

If you have even a few inches of wall space, a narrow cabinet like the one above can be a game changer for storage and organization in your entryway.

You can use it to stash anything from shoes to bags or other random things you usually keep at your front door. This way the floor is less cluttered and keeps the objects hidden!

4. Hide the Clutter with Baskets

Baskets, are such a holy grail. Rattan, woven, wire, all of them. They are the best at keeping things organized without looking messy.

They look good in any setting, whether it’s a bundle on the corner floor, under a bench or sitting on a shelf.

On top of all that, they add some really good texture to the space, especially if it’s rattan. The soft wooden elements are so pretty.

5. Hang a Statement Mirror

I’m sure you’ve heard of the statement that mirrors can make a small space look bigger and brighter instantly. I can say this is absolutely true for small entryways too.

Apart from them, they offer a place to check your outfit before heading out!

I would recommend planning what size and shape mirror you should add to your own entryway space. Personally, vintage/thrifted ones with those beautiful frames go really well in most spaces.

6. Choose Light, Airy Colors

Painting an entryway in softer, lighter colors such as white, or light grey can change how your space feels in a huge way. Neutral colors and warm ones can make the space feel fresh and welcoming.

Darker colors and black can make the space feel smaller, so try and opt for light, airy colors for your wall color, furniture and any decorations you’re looking to add.

7. Maximize Vertical Space

Sometimes the best ideas come from looking up! Adding anything to your entryway that maximizes vertical space such as a stacked cabinet is an excellent idea.

I so love the idea in the image and if more height allows, I’d even add more floating shelves above the mirror, or in it’s place.

8. Keep it Minimal

However, sometimes less is more in a small space. Bringing your space down to the essentials, or just a simple table with a gorgeous flower with a painting or two is all you need sometimes for a good small entryway.

For this idea, try and make the pieces super meaningful. Get a collection over time and don’t just buy a vase or paintings at Walmart and stick them up.

Curating the space like this will make it so, so much more special and unique.

9. Using a Coat Hanger

A simple coat hanger sometimes does the trick. Nothing more, nothing less. Use it for your everyday items like jackets and hats.

I find that most people don’t really use these anymore, so guests will definitely notice this.

A very easy and fun way to stand out and add more personality to your entryway!

10. Mix Textures for Depth

I think playing with some textures in your entryway is a really good idea.

It makes the space feel layered and cozy, instead of flat! I love the wooden and metal elements combined together. I feel like this instantly makes the space look more styled.

11. Show Off a Piece of Art

Hanging a small print or painting by the door is really fun. It allows you to set any tone you want for your home and definitely adds aspects of your personality to the physical world.

With that, it doesn’t even need to be expensive, just something that feels like you, and makes you smile whenever you walk in. It’s a really nice small entryway idea!

12. Add Seasonal or Swappable Decor

Switching up your entryway decor every holiday season is a fun way to feel involved in each season without spending too much money.

Whether it’s hanging a wreath or stockings during Christmas, or adding a mini pumpkin on a stool or console table, it keeps the space fresh and up to date!

13. Include a Small Bench or Stool

Real wooden stools or benches are so authentic, and I love having those kind of pieces around.

Apart from the fact that you can use it to sit when putting shoes on, a big enough stool or bench also serves as another place to drop things off.

If it’s legs allow for it, the space underneath them can also be used!

14. Use a Catch-All Tray or Bowl

I love to see spaces utilizing different ideas in one. This one uses a stool, a painting and some hook hangers, however the idea I want to highlight is that catch-all bowl.

I will die on the hill that every house needs a tray or bowl of sort where you can drop off things, especially keys!

We all know they have the biggest chance of being somewhere completely random, but having a bowl to keep them will definitely reduce the chance of that happening.

Also, I love the natural wood elements of the storage dresser in this entryway.

15. Add Warm Lighting

Good lighting can really change the vibe. Adding a small lamp to your entryway either on a stool or a console table can give such a really nice glow in the evening.

I definitely agree with the fact that it feels so much more welcoming than harsh overhead light!

16. Bring in Greenery

I love the creative use of a small stool to hold the vase. Even a tiny plant or a vase with some fresh stems makes the entryway feel so much more alive.

Nature all around is so comforting, so having some plants in your small entryway makes the space feel like a breath of fresh air every time you walk in.

17. Small Entryway Doormat

I definitely think that adding a simple doormat makes a big difference. Apart from the fact that it helps decorate and can even make your space bigger, it can keep your place cleaner and adds a place to leave your shoes.

Plus, it’s an easy way to add some pattern or some touches of color to your small entryway space!

18. Add a Personal Touch with Photos or Memories

Lastly, your entryway should feel like you! Getting some of your favorite photos of your friends and family framed or just little memories you’ve documented is the best way to add warmth and makes your space so much more personal.

Closing

So here we are, 18 small entryway ideas for you to try. You don’t need to change your space all of a sudden, but you can do a gradual change. Start with adding or removing one or two items everyday.

You’ll be amazed how much more inviting your space will feel when you add some simple decorations like a mirror, creative wall hooks, floating shelves and more.
