blue and green living room ideas

Blue and green are one of my favorite color combinations. Apart from also being my favorite colors, they are perfect for home decor, especially living rooms!

The blue brings a level of grounding and calm to a room, while the green adds life and energy so the space doesn’t end up looking too flat!

What I love about blue and green living room design inspiration is that you can really take it in like any direction.

For example, if you want something dark and moody, you can lean into navy blue and deep forest green. On the other hand, if you prefer a lighter, brighter feel, soft blue paired with sage green and a few well-placed plants completely changes the mood.

Also, the blue and green combination works whether your home is modern, traditional, cottage-style, or even a small apartment. All of these spaces can use personality with different colors!

So, if your living room has been feeling a bit meh lately, this color combo might be exactly the refresh you need. In this post, I’m going to walk you through the best ways to combine blue and green in your living room color scheme.

Blue and Green Living Room Ideas

1. Bold Navy Walls with a Soft Green Sofa

bold navy walls paired with a soft green velvet sofa, layered blue pillows, modern artwork, and a light patterned rug in a stylish blue and green living room design

I really like this combo, it’s such a statement.

Personally my eyes acknowledged the navy blue walls immediately, so it’s obvious that it creates a dramatic effect right off the bat, but the green sofa really does balance out the heaviness!

The trick here is definitely contrast. Go big with the dramatic color on the walls, but then ease it in with light-colored artwork, light curtains, and a few pillows for texture to break things up.

This is such a pretty look!

2. Soft Blue Sofa with Light Green Accents

If you’re looking for something fresh but not bold, this is so it.

The soft blue sofa is already calming, but adding light green chairs, plants, or pillows will make the whole room look effortless and definitely incapsulates blue and green living room decor.

Keep the rest of the room neutral so the two colors have space to breathe. This way you definitely have those blues and greens in your living space, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming.

3. Layering Blue and Green Pillows on a Neutral Couch

neutral couch styled with layered blue and green patterned pillows, classic built-ins, and warm wood coffee table for timeless living room color inspiration

I think this may be the easiest way to give the blue and green look a try without having to commit to painting the walls or getting any kind of color specific furniture!

Start with a neutral sofa, then play with different colors of greens and blues. Colors like navy, sage, olive, with patterned pillows are the goal. Texture can also play a role here. Linen, velvet, and woven fabrics can create a fun look.

The variety with the patterns creates a more designed look rather than a matchy-matchy look!

4. Cream Sofa Styled with Navy and Olive Pillows

Another idea I loveee!

A cream sofa is basically like a blank canvas, and adding navy and olive pillows immediately gives the space that blue and green feel without redoing the whole living room.

A really good tip is mixing one bold pattern with several solid colors to keep the look balanced.

Throw in a simple coffee table tray, maybe a candle, some books, and the entire room is put together!

5. Navy Walls with Green Accent Pillows

Once again, I find these dark blue walls really intense, but the lighter green pillows help to break them up a bit and connect to nature as well.

It helps keep the space from feeling too cold. I love the way the couch and wall share similar blue tones, and how the pillows also share blue and green tones together, instead of separately!

6. Traditional Blue and Green Decor

traditional decor with blue and white ceramics, gallery wall art, and fresh greenery styled above a sofa

The traditional blue and green decor (also behind the blue and green pillows!) are a beautiful way to add blue and green to your living room.

Whether it’s a lamp, or a vase, the patterns throughout this space is super pretty and the greenery makes the entire space super lively!

7. Blue Paneling with Botanical Green Touches

Blue wall paneling instantly adds character to a space, and when you incorporate all those greens, it feels very fresh.

Decor such as plants, green throw pillows, and nature-inspired art help to soften the architectural look of the wall paneling. Paneling like this adds so much decor and uniqueness to the living room spaces.

The other pots, which are green or blue, also add to the green and blue living room decor!

8. Blue and Green in a Cozy Cottage Living Room

Okay so this is where woven textures, plaid, and soft lighting comes in.

Blue and green feel super welcoming when it’s paired with woods and fabrics!

I really like how nothing feels too perfect, as making it feel lived in is key. I love the patterned arm chair and the natural basket on the coffee table and on the side of the arm chair too.

9. Cohesive Blue and Green Styling

Cohesion is key with this color scheme.

Look at how the blue and green shades are repeated throughout the room in the pillows, artwork, and small decor items.

This repetition makes the color scheme seem more deliberate rather than haphazard.

Definitely try to stick to a couple of different shades and use them throughout the room so that they seem connected rather than competing!

10. Navy Armchairs with Green Plants and Natural Textures

We saw with the navy walls, now we’re seeing it with the navy arm chairs.

Navy seating makes a strong statement so combining it with greenery is the easiest way to incorporate green with blue living room decor.

Woven baskets, the light wood floors and the plants scattered everywhere really helps the room feel fresh and not heavy!

11. Blue and White Shelf Styling with Fresh Green Florals

I love ceramics. Blue and white ones feel really classic and always remind me of Greece.

When you add fresh green florals next to it, the whole setup really comes alive.

It goes to show that blue and green living room decor isn’t just about florals and furniture, but also books and objects like vases and ceramics!

12. Built-In Cabinets Painted Soft Sage Green

Painting the built-ins a soft sage green is a brilliant decision.

It adds a beautiful shade of the green to the space that’s literally floor to ceiling.

When you add blue decor throughout the living room, like with the blues in the carpet or the books on the coffee table, it ties the whole look together.

It looks so relaxed, layered, and much more interesting than plain old white cabinetry.

13. Moody Green Walls with a Soft Blue Sofa

14. Plaid Blue Curtains Against Olive Green Walls

Plaid blue curtains adds a bunch of personality to a room, especially if the walls are painted!

In this case, the olive green walls with the plaid blue curtains perfectly balances the blue and green living room look!

15. Bright Green Walls with Blue Patterned Pillows

If you want to be bold with bright green walls, just go for it!

I love the shade of green, and even though it makes up majority of the living room’s color palette, I’d say it’s balanced out with the touches of blue throughout the pillows, blanket and the ceramic urns.

I love this look because the entire thing looks extremely elegant and fresh!

16. Green Botanical Curtains with Blue Decor

I absolutely love the curtains in this idea. The botanical style of them which extends to the pillows is gorgeous.

I’ve also never seen blue and green furniture like that before too.

The rattan blues for the coffee table are beautiful and completely remind me of the Mediterranean!

Closing

At the end of the day, blue and green just go together. They make sense. They feel natural, comfortable, and easy to be around. You can go bold with the blues and greens, or you can go soft with them as well.

The key is to find the right balance for your space. Start small, add a few pillows, a few pieces of art, a rug, and go from there.

The best part of all of this is that the color combination doesn’t feel like it’s going to go out of style anytime soon!

It feels timeless but interesting. So, if your living room needs a face lift, but you want it to be one that really makes a difference, blue and green might be the easiest solution.
